Why Mindset Matters
Imagine you’re on holiday and walking into a new supermarket for the first time to pick up some supplies. As you step through the sliding doors, you’re greeted not by the familiar sights and sounds of your usual grocery store, but with a dazzling array of unfamiliar product brands, arranged in a layout that seems almost alien.
At first, you might feel a sense of disorientation, even frustration. Your tried-and-true strategies for navigating the aisles, to find your favourite brands and best deals, suddenly seem useless. But then, something shifts and you remember how important mental models are. You pause and decided to shift to a new strategy for an unknown adventure - simply going down each aisle with curiosity. Frustration lifts and you start to find what you need.
Just as the iPhone revolutionised the way we interact with technology and each other, the rise of AI is poised to transform every aspect of our lives, from the way we work and create to the way we shop and live. And just as those early iPhone adopters had to learn new ways of thinking and interacting, so too must we adapt our mental models to thrive in this new era.
With the accelerated speed of change and innovation; your ability to thriving in an AI-enhanced workplace will depend on your ability to adapt, to explore and to discover new possibilities at every turn. It will require a mindset that is more curious, creative, and unafraid of change.
It’s not about becoming more machine-like, but about becoming more deeply, more authentically human. It’s about harnessing the power of AI to amplify our creativity, our empathy, our strategic thinking—the very qualities that make us unique.

Putting Mental Models Into Practice
Let’s bring these mental models to life with a concrete example. My favourite is to start with Cultivate Curiosity, its simple and will unlock so much else for you.
When ChatGPT was first launched, I was experimenting everyday and encouraging my team to do that same; at first it's outputs weren't good enough to use, but by trying to work out what it was good at, what it's limitations were and constantly questioning what we could use it for.
We were learning and building new mental models that enable us to craft better prompts and get better outcomes.
So every time i started a new task i wondered to myself “I wonder if AI can help me do XYZ”
This is by far the most powerful question you can ask yourself, over and over again as you go about your work.
Remember Steve Jobs said “stay hungry, stay foolish” constantly testing and iterating with different AI systems is the ONLY way you will learn.
Key Takeaways
