My journey to building AI Flywheel

What drove me to start AI Flywheel

What will we do different

G’day!

Today I want to share with you my journey from anxiety to massive taking action, that has helped drive me to a new phase in my career.

Everything I have learnt along the way has driven me to build AI Flywheel.

The start of the journey

Confession time: I am a huge nerd and have been an early adopter of most new technologies. AI is no different.

As soon as ChatGPT launched I was trying to find ways to use it and encouraging my team to do the same.

After being made redundant earlier this year, I wanted to give myself time to work out what I wanted to do next. But in the meantime I knew AI would be part of that future.

So I dedicated 1000’s of hours to mastering AI - attending countless courses including advanced prompt engineering and AI Ethics at LSE; experimenting endlessly and strategically redesigning my way of working to be
AI-first.

But along the way, something unexpected happened.

The more I learned about AI ethics and saw the rapid advancement of AI, the more conflicted I became.

While I felt more creatively empowered than I have in my whole career with AI as my sidekick, I was growing equally concerned about its responsible use and the danger unethical AI poses.

I wondered if it was just me.

This conflict led me to interview 130 professionals about their AI adoption journey. The findings were striking:

• 100% knew they needed to adopt AI
• 79% were stuck in the experimental phase
• Only 5 out of 130 understood AI ethics and its importance
• Almost everyone felt overwhelmed by technical jargon and information overload

That's when it hit me:

If we want widespread responsible AI adoption, we need to completely redesign how people learn to work with AI.

The Current Reality

Most people I interviewed shared similar challenges:

• No time for thousands of hours of learning
• Struggling to understand overly technical courses
• Uncertainty about which AI tools to trust and use
• Difficulty moving from random AI experiments to systematic integration
• Feeling isolated in their learning journey

Meanwhile, nearly every tech company is racing to integrate AI into their products and services. The gap between AI's potential and people's ability to use it responsibly is widening daily.

My greatest fear is without wide spread AI literacy, we are relying on companies with a financial interest in pushing the boundaries over embedding human ethics at the core of AI systems to ensure our future safety.

It's happening so quickly, I just don't want the majority of us to sleepwalk into a future we don't wont and can't come back from.

A Human-Centred Solution

With my background in human-centred design and experience delivering large-scale transformation programs, I knew there had to be a better way. So I spent months systematically designing a different kind of AI adoption course.

The AI Flywheel program isn't just about learning new technology—it's about supporting the human adaptation process to this enormous change.

I am on a mission to rapidly increase AI-Literacy and bring about a future where we all learn to work alongside Ethical Trustworthy AI.

What Makes This Program Different:

Human-First Approach
Instead of drowning in technical jargon, we focus on practical application in your daily work. Every concept is explained in plain language, with real-world examples you can relate to.

Foundational Literacy & Enduring Skills
With the rapid pace of change, learning foundational literacy and the skills will help you adapt as the technology does.

Ethical Foundation

Learning not just how to use AI, but how to use it responsibly. The problem is ethics is an invisible, never talked about thing. So I want to make the invisible visible through live workshops for peer to peer discussions around case studies of when AI has gone wrong in the past. Thus allowing for learning in a safe environment before having to apply in real life work situations.

Systematic Integration

Rather than random tips and tricks, you'll develop a systematic approach to integrating AI into your workflow, making it a natural extension of your capabilities.

Community Support

No one wants to learn alone. Join a community of like-minded professionals who are sharing their journey, challenges, and successes.

What Folks Will Learn:

• Essential mental models for effective AI use
• How to identify tasks best suited for AI vs human expertise
• Advanced prompting techniques and feedback loops
• Systematic workflow redesign for AI enhancement
• Practical application of AI ethical principles
• Methods to evaluate and select trustworthy AI tools

With the research insights in mind, the program was designed to combine self-paced learning with live weekly sessions, and a supportive thriving online community.

If you don't feel confident to use AI across your workflows, and worried about using AI responsibly, then don’t let 2024 pass you by without doing something this foundational to your future success.

The gap between those who have learnt to adapt to an
AI-driven work environment and those who haven't is widening every day.

But you don’t have to navigate it alone or spend thousands of hours figuring it out like I did.

On a personal note, starting this business in Amsterdam, feels kind of full circle for me right now.

I first came to Amsterdam in 2010 on exchange program during my Masters where i joined the Masters in Human-Computer Interaction and first learnt about computer vision and machine learning.

Over the last few months setting this program and AI Flywheel company up, has been a huge challenge - that I can tell you without a doubt has been made exponentially easier with AI as my sidekick along the way.

AI is absolutely lowering the barrier to entry to starting a business like never before. On your own like me or with a small group of people and AI as a foundational component to operations, you can do amazing things and produce the impact a team of 20 people used to have to do.

If you want to know more - hit me up.

In the meantime, thanks for joining me on the start of this journey and I hope to help as many folks as I can feel as confident, creatively empowered and extended as I do with AI by my side.

Til next time - take it easy
